Couples Therapy for real life
When love becomes overshadowed by frustration, you may find yourselves caught in anger, distance or power struggles. Perhaps you keep having the same argument, or have stopped talking because it feels easier than risking another conflict. You may still care deeply about each other and struggle to find a way through.
Couples therapy offers space to understand what is happening between you, address difficult patterns and explore what each of you wants for the relationship. If your partner is reluctant, you can also come individually to explore your experience, boundaries and choices.
My approach is direct, engaged and heart-centred. I offer clear feedback while attending to the feelings, histories and vulnerabilities beneath your difficulties. Sessions are available face-to-face in North London, online for clients internationally, and through couples intensives and weekend retreats.
I work with couples across countries and cultures, including people who have moved between countries or grown up across cultures.

Even love can feel distant when trust is broken, or resentment has taken root.

Why Now?
You do not have to wait until a crisis to seek support. Perhaps the same arguments keep returning, resentment is growing, or you miss the closeness you once shared. These difficulties deserve attention, even if you are still managing daily life together.
Couples therapy is not only about resolving problems. It offers space to understand what has changed between you, address what has remained unspoken, and explore the possibilities for renewed love, vitality and trust.
Some couples seek focused support during a crisis. Others want to work more deeply with long-standing patterns or nurture a conscious, fulfilling partnership. You may not yet know what needs to change—only that you do not want to keep relating in the same way.
Seeking help is not a sign of failure. It can be an expression of hope; a willingness to give your relationship attention and discover what may be possible.
A Conscious Relationship is Possible
My approach integrates psychotherapy, relational theory, and soul-based practice. I guide you in:
- Understanding the root causes behind communication breakdowns
- Shifting negative cycles
- Reconnecting emotionally and physically
- Healing relational wounds
- Cultivating conscious partnership as a path to wholeness
“The opposite of love isn’t hate—it’s indifference.”
— Helen Fisher
What We Work Towards
- Understanding what lies beneath recurring conflict.
- Expressing your needs and hearing your partner’s without losing yourself.
- Taking responsibility for your responses and repairing after hurt.
- Recognising the patterns you each bring and those you create together.
- Exploring how you give and receive love, care and support.
- Building trust and connection while making room for difference.
Understanding What Happens Between You
You may arrive wanting to communicate better, rebuild trust or recover a sense of closeness. But understanding what has gone wrong often means looking beyond the immediate disagreement.
What happens when one of you feels criticised or rejected? How do you each respond to disappointment, difference or the fear of losing the other? What remains unspoken because it feels too difficult—or because you no longer expect to be heard?
In our work, we pay attention to these moments and to the meanings they carry for each of you. I help you explore the relationship you want, where your hopes differ, and what each of you is willing and able to contribute. This includes recognising the impact of your actions, not only explaining your intentions.
What We Can Work On
Depending on what brings you, our work may include:
- Repeated arguments, withdrawal and difficulty repairing after conflict.
- Trust, betrayal and the effects of unresolved hurt.
- Emotional distance, intimacy and differences in desire.
- Boundaries, power, responsibility and decision-making.
- The pressures of parenting, work, illness, grief or significant life changes.
- Uncertainty about staying together or separating.
We can work with immediate difficulties while also exploring the longer-standing patterns beneath them.
My Approach to Couples Therapy
My approach is rooted in humanistic integrative psychotherapy, relational understanding, and attention to emotional and embodied experience. My work is informed by Imago Relationship Therapy, the Developmental Model of couples therapy and Internal Family Systems (IFS), alongside attachment, somatic and other relational approaches. I draw on these according to what you bring, rather than expecting you to fit one method.
We attend to what happens between you during sessions as well as what you describe from life outside them. There may be moments when I slow a conversation down, draw attention to a familiar pattern, or help you express something that has been difficult to say.
For me, a conscious relationship is not one without conflict. It involves becoming more aware of how you affect one another, taking responsibility for your responses, and finding ways to remain in contact without giving up your differences or sense of self.
There is also room to explore the deeper meaning of partnership; what intimacy asks of you, what you value, and how being with another person brings you into contact with yourself.
What We May Practise Together
Alongside understanding your difficulties, we may work on:
- Expressing needs, hurt and disagreement more clearly.
- Listening without immediately defending or withdrawing.
- Recognising when a conversation is becoming overwhelming.
- Returning to difficult conversations rather than leaving them unresolved.
- Acknowledging your impact and making meaningful repair.
- Negotiating differences without expecting either partner to disappear into the relationship.
The emphasis will depend on your circumstances and what becomes important in the work.
My clients lead diverse lives and follow many different career paths. They include professionals, lecturers and teachers, business leaders and owners, judges, lawyers, bankers, writers, media professionals, musicians and actors. Many are creative, passionate people seeking clarity and practical help with difficulties in their marriage or relationship.
Frequently Asked Questions about Couples Therapy
Do we need to know whether we want to stay together?
You do not need to arrive with a shared decision about your future. We can explore what each of you wants, what remains uncertain, and what you need to understand before deciding how to move forward.

Can I attend if my partner is unwilling?
Yes. You can attend individually to explore your experience of the relationship, your responses, boundaries and choices. This is not the same as working with both partners, and it does not mean taking responsibility for changing the other person.
How do we begin?
Contact me to arrange a consultation. This is an opportunity to discuss what brings you, ask questions about the work and consider whether working together feels appropriate.
What is the difference between ongoing therapy and a couples intensive?
Ongoing therapy offers continuity over a series of sessions. A couples intensive provides a concentrated period of work together. We can discuss the different formats and what may be appropriate for your situation.
Do you offer online couples therapy?
Yes. I offer sessions face-to-face in North London and online for clients internationally. We can discuss your circumstances and whether the format is appropriate during an initial consultation.
Insights from my daily work with Couples Therapy
I help couples create a positive vision of the relationship they want. I help them develop a roadmap to bring their creation into reality.
Many couples come in having never considered their personal vision for a happy long-term relationship. They struggle with having realistic models of what a healthy relationship looks like.
The business world breeds anxiety and depression. I understand that ambition eats good relationships for lunch. I have helped fix many of them.
Many people begin couple’s therapy wanting to communicate better, but they are not sure why communication became difficult in the first place. I help couples understand why communication is breaking down so you can prevent and resolve conflict. I help you change patterns that do not work anymore.
Some couples arrive in crises dealing with changes, infidelity, grief, loss, illness or the birth of a child. They need fast tools to cope and to regain some stability so they can carry on with everyday living. I can work with you in short-term, brief, solution focused therapy for crises.
Many couples wait too long to come in for therapy. By the time they sit on my couch they’re already hopeless or enraged. I advise you to come in as soon as you\’re feeling stuck, because years of built-up resentment hinder change and growth.
You will learn how to create satisfying relationships
I work in a highly supportive way, respecting and responding to your needs. I will guide you in the process of honest exploration of the issues that you face, providing tools to dissolve difficulties and transform your relationship.
The process is based on exploring relationships as a sacred path. Far from being an obstacle to your personal growth and development, relationships can be a catalyst for discovering your authenticity. When you “fall in love” your deepest need to be seen and understood is awoken.
I work internationally and specialise in working with relationships with individuals and couples in marital and relational crisis, helping you to discover what has to happen for you to overcome challenges and build a successful relationship, no matter what has occurred.
What You Can Develop Through the Work
Together, we explore the cycles of giving and receiving in your relationship; how you express care, ask for support, respond to one another’s needs, and what happens when these exchanges become strained or one-sided.
You are encouraged to develop relational skills to help you recognise conflict earlier, communicate more clearly and find ways to repair after hurt or disagreement. Alongside practical tools, there is space to understand yourself more deeply. The closer you move to another person, the more you may discover about your own needs, vulnerabilities and ways of protecting yourself.
The work also involves supporting change beyond the sessions; putting new understanding into practice, noticing when familiar patterns return, and finding ways to respond differently. Depending on your circumstances, this may mean rebuilding trust, renewing intimacy, strengthening your partnership or reaching greater clarity about your future.
Leading to greater intimacy and relational maturity. The process is tailored to support you as a couple in the process of change. It is recreated specifically for each couple and individual and is unique to your needs.
