  • Day Twenty Four : Be Happy

    ‘It’s not who you are that holds you back, it’s who you think you’re not.’

    Opportunities for happiness present themselves to us all the time. Whether or not you are open to them is another matter.

    Choosing happiness requires a conscious shift in your thoughts, behaviour and emotions. They are all linked.

    Daily Practice: Combat negative thoughts. Focus on changing your thoughts. Replace negative thoughts with positive thoughts. If you find yourself in the throes of negative mind chatter, replace them with mental images of what you desire in that situation.

    Happiness comes from not depending on others to make you happy.

    ‘If you want joy, reduce your desires. If you want peace, reduce your ego. If you want security, keep the instincts of sex and palate under control. If you hope for the best, be prepared for the worst. Face the fact that there is no life without suffering. Face the problems by overcoming them. Face the challenges of life by falling back on the changeless. Face death by knowing the deathless in yourself; face the uncertainties of life by making them a part of your life. Face the past by acting on the living present. Face the nightmares by waking up. Face the sufferings by developing immunity against them.”

  • Day Twenty Five : Embrace Obstacles

    ‘Gently eliminating all obstacles to his own understanding, he constantly maintains his unconditional sincerity. His humility, perseverance, and adaptability evoke the response of the universe and fill him with divine light.’

     A friend commented last night ‘if you want to make God laugh tell him your plans.’ Surrender and embrace obstacles that prevent you from loving they will turn into assets and strengths. When you get stuck in believing there is only one way of doing things you will not be open to the joys of experiencing life and the lessons life offers. Keep your eyes open to the path that will  open to you. Contemplations Think about what you are resisting in your life; consider the possibility of surrendering.

  • Day Twenty Six : Move your Body

    ‘Love is our true destiny. We do not find the meaning of life by ourselves alone- we find it with another.’

     Move your body

    Dopamine is a chemical in the brain called a neurotransmitter that’s necessary for feelings of pleasure and happiness. Aerobic exercise is probably one of the best ways to release dopamine.
